It’s nice to finally be a part of the blogosphere! For my first entry, I wanted to start by expressing how truly blessed I am to be a part of DSM. In my nearly 18 years here I have met so many extraordinary people and made the best friends that I will ever have. Not many of us are given the opportunity to make our passion into our livelihood - so for that - I thank you.

When DSM was started almost 20 years ago it was always envisioned to be more than just a place to take “music lessons”. Our philosophy has always been that the people we serve are far more important and precious than the music we teach. To be sure, we are all musicians and love music, but we love people even more. That is why we are sincere when we refer to our students as being part of the “DSM family”. And now, it is so exciting that this family extends far beyond our north Dallas campus. We have students from every continent, excluding Antarctica, enrolled at DSM and using our DLP Program on line (c’mon Antarctica - we know there are some musicians out there!).

I will be using this blog primarily to keep everyone informed about all of the exciting things going on here at DSM. In addition to weekly lessons with our excellent faculty (we were recently named “best place to study music” in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex by D Magazine), we offer faculty concerts, student recitals, workshops, and host guest artists, including being the host for the concerts of the Dallas Jazz Piano Society the last two seasons. That is why the Dallas School of Music is so much more than just a place to take music lessons - it is a place to belong and become.
